Did you know that Akshay Kumar got rejected for Deepak Tijori's role in Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander?
Akshay Kumar is one of the best actors that Bollywood has today. He is one of those few actors in the industry who worked his way up the ladder. Today he is one of the highest paid actors in the industry, who is churning out hits after hits. However, like we said, he didn’t have it easy. The model-turned-actor still reminisces his struggling days and the way he got his first big break in 1991. As per a MiD-Day report, the Khiladi star was quoted making some interesting revelations about his former days as an actor in Bollywood. Apparently, the actor is got just a meagre sum of Rs 5000 for his first film. The actor, who was then a model, was called by Pramod Chakravarty’s company with an offer to act in a film and on seeing his portfolio was offered three films instantly.
Akshay was quoted as telling the leading tabloid, “Much to my surprise, he (Pramod Chakravorty) gave me my first cheque, signed me up for three films, immediately. Right away. He gave me a cheque of Rs 5000, for the first film, Rs 50,000, for second film, and the third cheque had Rs 1.5 lakh on it. The exact time he gave me those cheques was 6 o’clock in the evening. It would have been a disaster, if I would have gone to Bangalore. Today, I would be a retired model somewhere. So yes, whatever happens is for the good.” However, things still turn out to be a cakewalk for the actor as he was rejected for two films at the nth moment, which later on went onto become the biggest hits in the 90s. If you’re wondering which movies were there, then let us tell you that one of it was Deepak Tijori’s part in Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikender, for which he was rejected. “So, I went there. Apna screen test diya maine, for Deepak Tijori’s role. And they didn’t like it. And, apparently, I was crap, so they removed me,” he said.
What also shocked us was that not Ajay Devgn but Akshay Kumar was the first choice for Phool Aur Kante’. The 50-year-old actor was quoted as saying, “Yes, I was in Phool Aur Kaante. I sat in on the (music) sessions with Nadeem-Shravan at Sunny Super Sound (recording studio). Those days, there used to be 30-40 violin guys in every song, a separate orchestra. Ab toh, we finish off everything in an instant. So at night, I was readying my ice box. You had to do it on your own in those days. So I was getting ready for the first day’s shoot. And then I get a call, ki bhaiya aap mat aana. Koi aur aa raha hai (You don’t need to come for the shoot, someone else is)”. With the successful career that Akshay has had in Bollwood so far, it is truly very hard to believe that the actor had to struggle so much to reach the place he has. This year, in particular has been quite a lucky one for the star, with Toilet: Ek Prem Katha earning more than 100 crores at the Box Office. His upcoming films, Padman, 2.0 (with Rajinikanth) and Gold also look very promising.
